2003 MTV MOVIE AWARDS
saturday 7th @ 8pm
Hollywood’s most outrageous
and tongue in cheek annual awards ceremony. Hosted by Justin Timberlake and
American Pie’s Seann William Scott, the MTV Movie Awards feature big-name live
music appearances and A List Hollywood stars battling it out for gongs such as
‘Best Kiss’, ‘Best Villain’ and ‘Best Fight’.
If
you thought this year’s Oscars were a bit of a damp squib and the BAFTAs were a
bit stiff and worthy, then make way for the 2003 MTV Movie Awards – a truly
populist celebration of the movies we actually genuinely go to see (rather than
those we think we ought!).
In
a move that will please women across the globe, Justin Timberlake will host this
year’s ceremony alongside American Pie’s Seann William Scott. A host of
celebrity presenters will dish out the gongs in cheeky categories like Best
Villain, Best Kiss and Best Fight.
Celebrity
presenters confirmed to appear so far include naughty-Irishman Colin Farrell,
action-hero god Harrison Ford, Chicago stars Queen Latifah and Mya, the
perennially cool Samuel L. Jackson, ‘Pianist’ Oscar-winning Adrien Brody,
R&B star Tyrese, Pearl Harbour hunk Josh Hartnett and rising star Paul
Walker.
As
well as attracting an audience of Hollywood’s hottest stars (previous attendees
have included Tom Cruise, George Clooney, Julia Roberts and Nicole Kidman) the
MTV Movie Awards is also famed for it’s knockout live music performances.
Performers for this year’s ceremony will be announced shortly, but last year’s
ceremony saw Eminem perform dressed as Batman’s Robin, Kelly Osbourne take to
the stage for her world debut singing performance and indie-gods The White
Stripes entertain the A-list crowd.
The
nominations for this year’s MTV Movie Awards see ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Two
Towers’ and ‘Spider-Man’ top the list with five nominations each. But both face
a run for their money in the ‘Best Film’ category from ‘The Ring’, ‘Barbershop’
and Eminem’s ‘8 Mile’.
The
debut acting performance of Eminem in ‘8 Mile’ has won two nominations,
including ‘Best Male Performance’ and ‘Best Breakthrough Male’. But Eminem will
face stiff competition in the Best Male category from The Lord Of The Rings’
Viggo Mortensen, Spiderman’s Tobey Maguire, Catch Me If You Can’s Leonardo Di
Caprio and Hollywood’s hottest hard man, Vin Diesel.
The
gloves are off in the catfight for Best Female Performance between Spiderman’s
Kirsten Dunst, Die Another Day’s Halle Berry, How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days’ Kate
Hudson, Sweet Home Alabama’s Reese Witherspoon and Chicago’s toughest inmate,
Queen Latifah.
