Johnny Depp to Net $64m for 4th Pirates Movie

posted by Sarah

From showbizspy.com: JOHNNY Depp will net almost $64m to star in the fourth Pirates Of The Caribbean movie, according to reports. The Hollywood hunk will reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in the hit Disney franchise, with a payout that eclipses Tom Hanks’ $58million for the Da Vinci Code sequel Angels And Demons. A source said, “It’s a lot of swag but they just can’t make another without Sparrow.” However, Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley are unlikely to return.

Pirates of the Caribbean 4 a “Go”!

posted by Sarah

From eonline.com: The entire Disney empire is turning into a one-man show. Luckily, that man is Johnny Depp.
The easy-on-the-eyes box-office heavyweight has signed on to appear in no less than three tentpole flicks for the Mouse House, chief among them reprising his Oscar-nominated role of Captain Jack Sparrow in a fourth installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. In addition to the almost inevitable annoucement of another Pirates go-round—during which the names Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley went unmentioned—Disney also announced during a showcase event at the Kodak Theatre Wednesday that Depp would be joining the masked man in a remake of The Lone Ranger.

Everest Documentary

posted by Sarah

From haaretz.comThe documentary (Everest: A Climb for Peace) is narrated by British movie star Orlando Bloom. Trumbull was adamant he wanted Bloom and no one else for his project.

“I had decided that I really wanted him to narrate my film for I love his voice - it is very powerful and commanding and so I was determined to somehow make it happen,” he says. “I tracked down and found his agent’s contact information and then I sent her an email. I wasn’t sure if she was going respond at all.”

Unfortunately, Bloom was filming the third in the Pirates of the Caribbean series at the time. But Trumbull did not give up.

“I believe that Orlando was always very much into narrating the film, but it was just a matter of his schedule and so after a lot of backs and forths with his agent, and excitement and patience on my part, they agreed to make it happen and to fit it into his schedule whenever he could. All in all, it took about a year to make it happen, but it was definitely worth the wait. I met and directed him in a studio in Hollywood. Orlando was a wonderful guy, completely genuine and incredibly nice, and his voice was perfect for the film. I could not be happier. I feel extremely fortunate and blessed that it all came together.”

Nepal Radio Show Wins Award

posted by Sarah

From unicef.org: ‘Saathi Sanga Manka Koora’ (Chatting with My Best Friend), a radio programme produced by a team of young professionals from the non-governmental organization Equal Access Nepal, has won the 2008 International Children’s Day for Broadcasting (ICDB) regional award for South Asia. Targeted at teenagers and young adults, the ‘edutainment’ programme was initiated by UNICEF in 2001 in Nepal and is now being broadcast every week over the national radio network and 45 other local FM stations with UNICEF and USAID support.

The drama featured Hollywood star Orlando Bloom, who was then on a trip to see UNICEF’s programmes in Nepal. “The children wrote a play about their problems, and gave Orlando a role to give a tip to the children on how things could be solved if everyone worked together,” said Sangita. ”Orlando was also involved in a discussion programme with the children where he asked them what they envisioned for themselves in the future. The answers given by the boys and girls formed the bulk of the ICDB special programme.”

Why Orlando Was Partying With Trump

posted by Sarah

From foxnews.com: Looks like Orlando Bloom wants to take the next step in his career and he used Nakheel and Donald Trump’s recent swanky soiree to get things moving.

“I just went to the Dubai film festival and I was there a few years ago and so when I got a call about this party, I figured there is such a developing market in Dubai and I’m trying to get movies that I want to get made together,” the actor told Pop Tarts. “I’m interested to meet some people in the room and see if there are people wanting to maybe make movies with Orlando Bloom in Dubai.”

Orlando to Play Scots Adventurer?

posted by Sarah

From dailyrecord.co.uk: A Scots adventurer is to have his life story made into a Hollywood film starring movie heart-throb Orlando Bloom. Rory Stewart, 35, trekked 6000 miles from Turkey to Bangladesh, living with villagers. He made the journey after quitting a diplomatic post in Iraq because he had become disenchanted with the Allied invasion. The idea for the film came after Lord Of The Rings star Bloom heard a talk given by Rory about a charity he runs in Afghanistan.

From independent.co.uk: The film, to be written by the award-winning novelist and script writer Ronan Bennett, will focus on three central “chapters” of his life: his epic journey on foot, his return to the Foreign Office, and his aid work in Kabul, which began two years ago as a one-man operation. The Turquoise Mountain Foundation now employs 350 people and runs a artists’ school. The charity was conceived by Prince Charles, who enlisted Mr Stewart’s help.

From scotsman.com: Stewart is reluctant to discuss the film. It’s a “very early-stage thing”, he insists. “We haven’t got as far as signing a contract …

“I’m a bit ambivalent about it. I think what my books are really about is my sense, in Afghanistan, of what culture outside Kabul seems to be like for a foreigner, and in Iraq to talk about why the coalition was so unsuccessful and the project so doomed. I try to keep myself out of the books, I don’t talk about my own personality or life. I’m not quite sure how this could work.”

More Fools Rush In Info

posted by Sarah

It’s been reported that Orlando will be playing Brian, Bill Carter’s friend. The movie will also star Liam Neeson.

From bbc news: Speaking in the city earlier this week, the 31-year-old said he hoped the film would be made in the Bosnian capital. The film will be based on Fools Rush In, US writer Bill Carter’s memoir of living in the city during the siege. “I read the script and the very human story at the very core of this film spoke to me very clearly,” said Bloom.

“Hopefully we can get this movie to be made at the end of this year,” he told reporters. “To come here and shoot would be just wonderful.” If made, the film will be directed by Brazilian Andrucha Waddington and produced by the American Elliott Lewitt. Crew members met this week with Sarajevo’s mayor, who promised financial and other support for the film. Thousands died in the siege between 1992 and 1996, which saw the beleaguered city suffer a constant barrage by Bosnian Serb forces.

New Film Role: Fools Rush In

posted by Sarah

There have been reports that Orlando is in Sarajevo to scout filming locations for a movie based on Bill Carter’s memoir ‘Fools Rush In’. Orlando is said to star in the film and well as being an executive producer. Here is a synopsis of the book:

When tragedy strikes Bill Carter’s life he finds himself drawn to an unlikely place — Bosnia, in the midst of its civil war. Searching for meaning in the heart of darkness, he manages to find lodging in an abandoned tower block and sets out getting supplies to the starved, besieged citizens of Sarajevo. It is there that Carter emerges from his stupor. Inspired by a community of people working to bring relief to the city, he daringly enlists the help of music group U2 and its lead singer, Bono, who set up satellite links on the band’s Zooropa tour that allowed ordinary citizens of Sarajevo to speak unedited and live on 90-foot television screens to thousands of concertgoers worldwide.

Family Affairs Bloom at Festival

posted by Sarah

From bbc.co.uk: Like most showbusiness events, the Fringe has always been a family affair, both offstage and on. So it was not a surprise to see members of two acting dynasties together in one venue. Samantha Bloom is appearing in A Cloud in Trousers at the White Belly, which is based on a selection of writing by the Russian poet Maykovsky.

Brother Orlando Bloom - in town for the opening of the Tracey Emin exhibition - came along to the show’s first night with pet dog Sidi, who gatecrashed the stage (neither Bloom seemed fazed by the interuptions and the show went on).

Cafe Visitors See Acting in Full Bloom

posted by Sarah

From redorbit.com: VISITORS to a church cafe will not have been expecting to stumble across Hollywood star Orlando Bloom giving an acting lesson.

But those enjoying tea and scones at the cafe at St George’s West Church in Shandwick Place yesterday were treated to a display of the 31-year-old heart-throb’s professional prowess as he delivered an acting masterclass to his older sister Samantha, who debuts at this year’s Fringe.

Ms Bloom, 32, stars in one-woman show, A Cloud in Trousers by a Girl in a Suit. An adaptation of work by early 20th Century Russian poet Vladimir Mayakovski, it is the tale of unrequited love which fuses music, poetry and transvestism.

During rehearsals, as Samantha began to transform herself into the male mindset of Mayakovski, her brother mounted the stage to help.

Ms Bloom says she has no qualms about taking advice from her brother. She said: “He encourages me in everything I do and I like to ask his opinion.”

Brother, It’s a Man’s World

From redorbit.com: ORLANDO Bloom, one of Hollywood’s biggest stars, strides through the foyer of an Edinburgh church with all the swaggering style of his Pirates of the Caribbean film role.

But a quartet of elderly ladies enjoying tea and scones in the cafe at St George’s Church West hardly give him a second glance - it’s Edinburgh, it’s the Fringe, and they are unaware they are in company of a celebrity.

Bloom, 31, is in town to deliver an acting masterclass to his elder sister Samantha, 32, who is making her Fringe debut.  read the rest of the article…

Del Toro Answers ‘Hobbit’ Questions

posted by Sarah

From mtv.com: MTV News recently sat down with del Toro and brought along a whole host of fan questions on “The Hobbit” (as well as some of our own). The Mexican director talked about why Peter Jackson told him to lose weight, which “LOTR” stars might be returning and how Tolkien’s personal faith will influence the project.

Q: In the past year, I’ve spoken with Viggo Mortensen, Cate Blanchett, Elijah Wood, Sean Astin and Orlando Bloom, and all of them say they want back in. Who should wait by the phone? - MTV News

Del Toro: They said that? I’m a f—ing fan of all of them! The thing is that here and there in the book, in the existing book, there are places to have them almost casually, in secondary roles that are not that important but that would be incredibly enhancing as cameos go. But it is the second movie that is the treasure trove of possibilities. I believe the second movie will be present as an opportunity of enthusiasm and creation. I frankly look forward to that one so much. I really want us to prove that we have a solid concept for that, but the promise of that land is absolutely mind-boggling! I can’t wait to mount on the horse and ride, and I hate horses!

The party - which this year was beach themed - is held to raise money for the Elton John Aids Foundation and included entertainment from Beach Boys singer Brian Wilson.

Orlando Bloom Backs the Marlowe

posted by Sarah

From canterbury.gov.uk: Actor Orlando Bloom has been named as an honorary Patron of the New Marlowe Theatre campaign, a development project to build a new theatre and centre for the performing arts in the heart of historic Canterbury, a birthplace Bloom shares with dramatist Christopher Marlowe. The Canterbury-born actor has joined nine other influential founding Patrons – including Joanna Lumley – who are backing the New Marlowe fundraising campaign, which aims to raise £6m of private donations towards the overall project cost of around £24m.

Orlando Bloom said: “Canterbury and The Marlowe Theatre hold a special place in my heart and I’m delighted that I’ve been invited to be a Patron of The New Marlowe Theatre campaign. Regional theatres like the Marlowe are an integral part of the community, and they have a vital role to play in bringing people together from all backgrounds. I feel passionately about engaging young people in the performing arts, and I will do all that I can to encourage the region’s youngsters to be inspired by The New Marlowe Theatre.”

10 Best Eco Celebrities

posted by Sarah

Orlando is #5 on marieclaire.co.uk’s list of 10 Best Eco Celebrities.

Early last year, Orlando Bloom travelled to Antarctica to see for himself the effects of global warming. ‘The icebergs are so majestic, but they felt like dinosaurs to me,’ he says, ‘like a dying breed.’ Bloom, a founding member of Global Green (globalgreen.org), an organisation dedicated to tackling climate change, was so impassioned by the experience he felt compelled to make his new house in London ‘all green’, including eco technology and solar panels. Still, the 31-year-old actor understands that not everyone is able to make such a commitment, and change is as much about managing the environmental accounts columns in your life. ‘If you can afford to drive an SUV, then maybe you can afford to make a donation to a wind farm or plant some trees. It’s all about balance.’
